   The  Battle of the Bulge is a film based on the last major German battle of The Second World War. It stars the greatest war actor of all time Henry Fonda who had already starred in Immortal Sergeant, Mr. Roberts, The Longest Day and In Harms Way.It seems like he has starred in almost every war film. It also stars Dana Andrews, Robert Shaw, James MacArthur, Robert Ryan, Telly Savalas and Charles Bronson. Ryan, Savalas and Bronson would reunite in 67 to do The Dirty Dozen. Shaw is always a good choice for a villain. He was good in From Russia with Love and Taking of Pehlam 123. Good war film.

The only good thing about Escape to Athena was that it starred Telly Savalas. Everything else was bad they just took James Bond and dumped him into the middle of WW2 disguised as a Nazi.The only problem was that he had a strong British accent. How he fooled anyone I don't know. I am also wondering what in the heck David Niven was doing in this Guns of Navarone rip off. If your going to include him, then why not include Quinn, Peck, Baker and Quayle. And as always in war films they had one black guy Richard Roundtree. They should have had Jim Brown play the part instead since he had already starred in Ice Station Zebra and The Dirty Dozen.Don't watch this!!

This war was NOT started for your private gratification, and you can be damned sure its not being run for your personal convenience, either!

This week I watched one of my favorite movies,The Dirty Dozen a war film starring Lee Marvin,Robert Ryan,Jim Brown,Donald Sutherland,Telly Savalas,Charles Bronson,Ernest Borgnine and George Kennedy.The film is about 12 prisoners who must go on a secret mission behind German lines. The film involves many of the same people from Flight of the Phoenix. including Borgnine and Kennedy, director Robert Aldrich, composer Frank De Vol and screen writer Lukas Heller.This is also in my top five war films along with The Great Escape,Where Eagles Dare,The Longest Day and Bridge on the River Kwai. Classic Film!!!
