Over my break I watched the film How the West was Won. It is like the Longest Day and Bridge to Far in terms of cast. The cast includes Walter Brennan, John Wayne, Karl Malden, James Stewart, George Peppard, Eli wallich, Debbie Renyolds, Carroll Baker, Greorgy Peck and Lee J Cobb to name a few. The film also has Lee Van Cleef in an uncredited role. The film is narrated by Spencer Tracy.   It revolves around one families journey to the west and the struggles they faced over the years.



The film was shot by different directors. The great John Ford shot the Civil war scene. Another great western director Henry Hathaway shot the  River, Plains and Outlaw scene. George Marshall shot the Railroad scene.The film was nominated 8 times at the Oscars in 1963 winning only 3. One for best writing for story and screenplay, best editing and best sound. The great score by Alfred Newman and Ken Darby was going to win for best original score but there was a mix up and the Oscar went to John Addison for Tom Jones. The mistake has never been fixed to this day. I have no complaints except that they killed off Karl Malden and Walter Brennan which was mean.  It was also a little slow at times. Overall it was good. 

Gaint Rest in Peace Elizabeth Taylor

In memory of the great and very beautiful actress Elizabeth Taylor who died a few days ago at the age of 79. This being my first time seeing it I enjoyed it a lot. I really liked Dennis Hoppers Performance as well as Dean's. This is my first time seeing James Dean in a film. It touched on the subject of Racism. I liked this film and think that anyone who likes movies should watch this.

I give ya warning, you step foot in Blanco Canyon once more and this country goin' to run red with blood until there ain't one of us left!

I haven't seen The Big Country in a long time. And I'd have to say I enjoyed it very much.The  first thing I like about this film is it's dramatic musical score by Jeromre Moross which was nominated for an Oscar but lost to The old man and the sea by Dimirti Tiomkin.  It also has many great actors who perform brilliantly such as Gregory Peck,Charlton Heston,Jean Simmons,Carroll Baker,Charles Bickford and Burl Ives for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor which he well deserved. This was one of the few times the Academy used it's head. The Big Country is a timeless  classic and a must see for all movie lovers.
